A Week of Horrors

Announcing the Arkham Nights 2020 Event

#ArkhamNights2020

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.”

–H.P. Lovecraft

Greetings, investigators.

We wish we could meet in better circumstances, but there are matters that we simply must address. Dark omens of unspeakable horrors loom on the horizon, whispers of monsters and inexplicable evil creep on the edge of everyone’s minds, and an omnipresent dread chills our souls.

They are coming.

In just a few days’ time, it will begin. The cults of the Ancient Ones will gather in celebration of their unknowable lords, and a different ritual will take place each day to contribute to the dark event, which will last for nearly a week.

That event’s name? Arkham Nights 2020.

Normally, this celebration of horror would take place in person at the Fantasy Flight headquarters in Roseville, Minnesota, but this year the frightful festivities will be entirely online.

The forces of the Mythos will begin their ghastly agenda on Monday, October 26 with a new riddle about Eldritch Horror. This riddle will reveal itself on the Fantasy Flight Games Facebook page, and one unlucky soul who answers this riddle correctly will be cursed with a free expansion for the game, doomed to enjoy themselves with an enhanced Eldritch Horror experience.

On Tuesday, October 27, the mysterious members of the Silver Twilight Lodge will release some recipes native to Arkham, Massachusetts, in an effort to spread their influence throughout the world. Be sure to avoid the Fantasy Flight Games website and social media accounts, where these recipes will be posted and linked, or else you too will be captured by their flavors and ensnared by their richness.

On Wednesday, October 28, the cultists of Organized Play will reveal the first of their dastardly Play-and-Share promos, which were unlocked by enough people participating in their ongoing ritual. We can only hope that the ritual does not meet further milestones, or else more and more promos will be unlocked and the Play-and-Share campaign will only continue to grow.

On Thursday, October 29, Matthew Newman and Jeremy Zwirn, two of the top investigators at Fantasy Flight Games, will livestream their efforts to combat the Mythos by working with viewers to design a brand-new card for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. This crucial event for humanity’s survival will take place at 4:00 PM CST on the FFGLive Twitch channel. For the sake of keeping the horrors at bay, do not miss this stream! IMPORTANT EDIT: Due to unexpected circumstances, this livestream has been postponed. Be sure to check back in periodically and keep an eye on FFG's social media accounts for updates on the new date for this event!

On Friday, October 30, you'll find a brief respite from the horrors of the week with a simple quote from one of FFG's Arkham titles. Is this their favorite quote? Or does it mean something greater? Investigators will have to figure that out on their own!

Finally, on Saturday, October 31, FFG will begin taking submissions for the sinister ‘Craftian Costume Contest. Any hopeful innocents who wish to show their love for the horrors of Arkham will be able to submit images of themselves dressed as investigators, cultists, or unspeakable horrors. Among the submissions, one person will be chosen to receive a mysterious Arkham Horror-themed prize. Submissions will be open until 11:59 PM CST on Sunday, November 1. The fortunate (or perhaps unfortunate) winner of this prize will be announced on Monday, November 2. The official rules for this contest can be found here.

Whether you look forward to this event or view it with dread, the fact remains that Arkham Nights 2020 begins on Monday, October 26. Brace yourselves, investigators. It will be a week to remember.
