“‘Come in peace,’ they said. ‘First contact,’ they said. These little grey bastards are here for one thing, and one thing only. They’re here to kill us all. Let’s make sure we get ‘em first!”

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Alien Invasion, the third book in The End of the World roleplaying game line!

Massive, gleaming saucers appear over Earth’s major cities. The secret Illuminati that has ruled the world since time immemorial emerges to make its ultimate powerplay. Your own friends and loved ones suddenly seem… not quite right. No matter what weird or terrifying events are occuring, it’s plain to see that we are not as alone as we once thought. Earth has become the center of an Alien Invasion!

Alien Invasion is the third book in The End of the World roleplaying game line created by Álvaro Loman and José M. Rey. Like Zombie Apocalypse and Wrath of the Gods, Alien Invasion invites you to play as yourself, in your own hometown, as an extraterrestrial attack erupts around you. An elegant, narrative rules system keeps the game’s focus on the story as you experience one of five unique scenarios, each of which features dozens of possible adversaries and encounters. Watch out for UFOs, and prepare for close encounters with an Alien Invasion at the end of the world!

First Contact

Unlike most other RPGs, Alien Invasion and the other titles in The End of the World offer you a unique opportunity—the chance to play as yourself in the midst of the apocalypse! Before the aliens arrive and start firing death rays, you and your friends make abstracted versions of yourselves by assigning points to six characteristics: dexterity, vitality, logic, willpower, charisma, and empathy. These characteristics determine exactly what you’re capable of when the aliens attack, from understanding and operating alien technology, to convincing some other survivors to hide you, to defeating an alien copy of yourself in hand-to-hand combat!

You are more than just your raw abilities and disabilities, however. Each character also has a number of features, both positive and negative. These features are what truly define your character, setting you apart from your fellow companions. They also can give you an edge in certain situations, while holding you back in others. In each of the three categories—physical, mental, and social—you’ll need a positive feature and a negative feature for your character.

For instance, in the mental category, your character may choose the Conspiracy Theorist positive feature. Even before the world’s rulers are revealed to be a race of reptilian aliens, your Conspiracy Theorist positive feature can help you penetrate the lies perpetrated by the establishment. To counteract this feature, you may choose the Terrified of Drowning  negative feature. When the Atlanteans emerge from the ocean depths and begin to enact their plan to flood the world, this negative feature will take no small toll on your sanity.

After each player has created himself as a character, the Game Master begins one of the five scenarios included in Alien Invasion. No matter which scenario the GM chooses, you begin the game in your own hometown, starting where you and your fellow players sit around the table. You’ll run down familiar streets and meet in basements to coordinate a resistance against our alien overlord. You can scavenge for food in your local grocery stores and restaurants as giant ants tear apart the civilized world. You may even be forced to battle your neighbors—or rather, the alien creatures that have replaced them! Where will you find weapons better than a baseball bat? Where will you go for shelter from the rising waters? In every game of Alien Invasion, your familiar streets and neighborhoods host the battle to survive in the midst of extraterrestrial attacks.

Close Encounters

We are not the sole sentients in our galaxy, as many assumed. At least one other highly-advanced race exists, and unfortunately, they are bent on our ultimate destruction! Each of the five scenarios in Alien Invasion offers a different suggestion for how our world comes to be the target of a full-scale invasion.

The Greys may suddenly attack from their cities on Mars after the Curiosity rover is interpreted as an overt threat of war. The Atlanteans who dwell far beneath our oceans may rise to the surface and enact their plan to drown the entire world. Alien spores may infect people and create identical copies to kill and replace their original hosts. Asteroids may strike Earth, carrying massive, ant-like aliens that attempt to turn the world into one of their colonies. It may even be revealed that every government is secretly under the control of the reptilian aliens that once ruled Earth and now prepare to take command once more!

Each of these five scenarios offers vastly different ways for the alien invasion to begin and features dozens of unique events and encounters. In addition to this, Alien Invasion features a unique scenario structure shared with the other books in The End of the World line. In these books, each scenario is split into the apocalypse and the post-apocalypse. The apocalypse chronicles the initial spasms of panic and terror that accompany our first contact with extraterrestrial life. Countless people perish in these first throes of the apocalypse, but for those who survive, life eventually transitions to a new normal: the post-apocalypse. In the post-apocalypse, life can be far more dangerous than it ever was before—humanity may be enslaved or fight desperately to reclaim a world that’s been changed forever.

This flexible scenario structure offers a massive amount of replayability and customizability to every game of Alien Invasion. If you wish, you can play a fast-paced, single-session game that challenges players to survive as long as they can in a world gone mad. Alternatively, you could play a sweeping campaign that invites you to live years past the apocalypse, perhaps rising to greatness in a world changed forever by the aliens’ invasion.

UFOs Incoming!

Aliens have attacked and nowhere on Earth is safe. You and your friends must find some way to survive the onslaught, whether you’re dodging incinerator rays, breaking into secret government bases, or fleeing from a gigantic ant. No matter which alien race has chosen to attack Earth, you’ll find new adventures and thrills here, at the end of the world.

The Alien Invasion begins in the fourth quarter of 2015!
