Four powerful factions engage in massive, ground-shaking battles for control of Terrinoth in Runewars Miniatures Game, the tactical miniatures game of rank-and-file fantasy warfare. In the game, players command expansive armies, each with a distinct set of soldiers, monsters, magic, and skills which they will use to build their strategies and earn victory. Today, Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to offer you a look at the battles of Runewars Miniatures Game through the eyes of four new players with the beginning of our Runewars Versus series!

Our four volunteers, all new to the game, have each taken command of a faction which they will lead into combat over a series of matchups. We will accompany them as they learn and adapt their military strategies, growing from inexperienced leaders to masterful commanders. To begin, the forces of darkness face off. Rose will lead the undead forces of Waiqar the Undying, while Lizzie will fight with the screaming hordes of Uthuk Y’llan.

Preliminary Reconaissance

Before the battle commenced, we had a word with our two commanders.

What is your background with Runewars Miniatures Game?

Rose: I would consider myself a VERY casual gamer. Miniatures have always looked complicated and intimidating, and I’m very worried I’ll forget the rules or abilities of my skele-dudes and make a big ole fool of myself. But I mean, why not try something new? What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Lizzie: I’m familiar with the mechanics of the game, but my actual playtime has been limited. I like the Uthuk because they are so unlike anything I’ve seen in other fantasy worlds, so I’m excited to give them a shot.

Is there anything you would like to say to your opponent?

Rose: Please, be gentle.

Lizzie: Bring. It. On.

(Ravos the Everhungry, 5 points)

Powers Collide

War and bloodshed consume Terrinoth. Resources have become scarce—especially for those forced to reside in the poisoned landscapes where only foul and evil things can flourish. But recently, word of a ravaged Daqan caravan on the edge of the Mistlands has reached the ears of two opposing militant leaders… and each have decided it’s time to launch a Supply Raid. At the site of the Daqan caravan, a throng of Waiqar the Undying’s followers happen upon an unprepared swarm of Uthuk Y’llan. Peace has never come naturally for either side, and now that they have been set in opposition, only one army can leave with the supplies from the Daqan caravan.

The two commanders eye each other from opposite ends of the field as they send out their forces. Both begin by setting their infantry, Rose’s Reanimate Archers and Lizzie’s Uthuk Berserkers, in the ideal position to gather supplies early while remaining shielded from the heart of the battle. As the deployment phase continues, Rose attempts to keep Ankaur Maro protected from the vicious Flesh Rippers, even if that means he is too far from her infantry to use Regenerative Magic. Rose tries to bait out the deployment of the demon dogs, but with fewer units in the Waiqar army, she must eventually deploy Ankaur Maro and as if reading her fears, the first unit of Flesh Rippers is deployed directly before him.

        <img src="https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/1a/16/1a165e2f-1761-4368-a0e3-9f988ed610eb/rwmvs1_diagram_a1.png" style="width: 700px;"

Dark Destruction

Waiqar the Undying has had little experience battling against the Uthuk Y’llan as their key quarrel, that which drives them from the peace of the grave, is against the Daqan Lords. This leads to the Waiqar commander underestimating her opponent’s speed. In the corner of the battlefield, the shrieking Berserkers rush towards the same supplies as Rose's Reanimate Archers, causing an unexpected collision in the first round. The bloodshed is destined to begin early in this battle and at the end of the round, Ravos’s all-consuming hunger drives him to the edge of insanity. With no other options for feeding on nearby units, he begins to tear at himself and suffers one wound.

        <img src="https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/fd/d6/fdd63c7e-0033-43d4-a818-ac638dcff54c/rwmvs1_photo_berserkers_archers-round-1.png" style="width: 700px;"

This violent display disturbs the Waiqar command to the point of distraction, and the next round begins her opponent finding the four unstable energy runes needed for her champion, Ravos the Everhungry, to launch an early charge against Waiqar’s Reanimates at Initiative 4. Ravos wastes no time tearing the skeletal soldiers apart, wiping out nearly half their ranks before they can counter-attack.

Last Man Standing

With the beginning of the third round, nearly all units are locked in combat. Only Ankaur Maro, the Reanimate Archers, and a single unit of Flesh Rippers remain unengaged. As the bloodshed begins in earnest, the Uthuk Y'llan seem to have earned the blessing of the Ynfernael yet again, with four unstable energy runes at their disposal alongside one natural and one stable rune. Were he free to help his allies, this powerful display of unstable energy would enable Ankaur Maro to execute a ranged attack with a devastating four white dice. However, the Flesh Rippers still chase the scent of his blood and the sorcerer values his own life above those of his allies. Rather than provide aid, he flees from the demons who remain close behind.

Ravos continues to wipe out Waiqar’s infantry left and right with his Reaping Blade, ensuring that the dice roll in his favor even when they show blanks. Between this upgrade ability and his Brutal 1 keyword, the Uthuk Y’llan hero is able to take out two full trays of Reanimates, leaving just one steadfast soldier behind to face not only Ravos, but two scuttling horrors, the Spined Threshers, who approach from the north.

Can a dead man fear death?

Suddenly, the surrounded soldier is not nearly as alone as he once thought! A pair of Carrion Lancers charge in to aid their comrade and face the dreaded commander of the Locust Swarm. Ravos the Everhungy feels, perhaps for the first time in his life, a twinge of fear. He suffers three wounds at the hands of the Lancers, but he devours the final Reanimate using the consuming hunger of his unit card ability during the end of the round.

Turning the Tide

Seeing the last soldier fall fills Waiqar’s army with a sense of rage as the battle moves into the fourth round. The battle wears on, weakening the bodies and minds of both sides. Dazed by the heat of battle, the Berserkers and Reanimate Archers begin to falter. The Berserkers buckle down and prepare their defenses for a melee that never comes, while the Reanimate Archers launch a ranged attack, expecting their enemies would turn tail and flee.

Rose’s Death Knights attempt to give succor to Ankaur Maro, taking off after the Flesh Rippers, pushing them to the edge of the battlefield, and allowing Ankaur Maro a chance to show his true power. As a necromancer, Ankaur Maro draws upon the dark, unstable power of the Ynfernael and executes a ranged attack with two white dice (and a mortal strike modifier!) against the Spined Threshers. The mortal strike modifier proves to be Ankaur Maro's only saving grace—his dice show only blanks.

“Rose,” the Uthuk Y'llan commander’s voice bellows from across the battlefield, “I’ve made a terrible mistake.” Indeed, going into round five, her orders have forced Ravos the Everhungry to shift directly into the path of the Spined Threshers. This collision that will be difficult to work out of, considering both units are hindered by a noxious swamp nearby. During the confusion, Rose’s Carrion Lancers launch an attack against the Spined Threshers and inflict another wound. But perhaps the Uthuk commander's greatest miscalculation comes in the seventh round, when the Spined Threshers use the last of their energy to charge Ankaur Maro. They fall just millimeters short of contact, almost as if some dark force is protecting the necromancer, who then charges straight into the crab-like horrors and manages to inflict a wound through their hard and bony carapaces.

Ravos the Everhungy, on death’s door, begins to feed on the flesh of his own allies to survive. At this point, the Uthuk Y'llan commander realizes that she does not stand a chance of destroying what remains of Waiqar’s battalion. The tide of battle has turned, and therefore, swallowing her pride, she changes course to flee. While a scant few of her high-value units still live, her only true hope for victory in the final round is to have claimed more objective tokens. Ankaur Maro continues his assault on the Spined Threshers, killing one as the other continues to limp forward. Finally, the smallest unit of Flesh Rippers manage to evade the cruel blades of the Death Knights, carrying the supplies their forces so desperately need. Will it be enough?

End of the Raid

In the end, Ankaur Maro and the Death Knights shrink back into the mists without having claimed any resources from the ravaged caravan. Meanwhile, the Uthuk Y’llan have survivors in most of their units, but all are dripping blood. Ravos and the remaining Spined Thresher survive, though both are severely wounded. The Flesh Rippers managed to gather three objective tokens between their two units, and the Berserkers gained one as well. With these, the Ru tribesmen will be able to bolster their strength as they prepare to extend their reach across Terrinoth.

Reaping Blade (4), War Crier (5), Fear Incarnate (5)

Before dividing, the two commanders exchange a few final words.

How do you think it went?

Rose: It went really well… for Lizzie. You know, its not as intimidating as I originally thought. There was a lot to remember, but it was easier to remember the longer we played. I want to play as the other factions now so I can be a stronger Waiqar leader. #WaiqarForever

Lizzie: I was hoping to kill all of her soldiers, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Next time, there will be no survivors!

What would you change?

Rose: Next time, I will definitely have Ankaur Maro start closer to the Reanimates. Rookie mistake. I started off fighting in close combat, which I think is influenced by the very first time I played Runewars, and I didn’t switch my tactics up until it was too late. Next time, I'd use ranged attacks much sooner.

Lizzie: I need to be more careful with how my units move. I sent in some of my guys too early, didn’t send some far enough, and just caused an awful traffic-jam. Also, I rarely used my upgrades, so I hope to use those more in the future.

A hundred ashen-colored warriors thronged below Derwyn on the cracked plain, grasping barbed blades. Some silhouettes appeared wiry and ravening, with muscle corded like bowstring. Others hunched under the weight of swollen limbs, clenching their underslung jaws. Jagged bone erupted from the skin of nearly all the Uthuk, and the sulfur stench of the Ynfernael caught in the back of Derwyn’s throat.

In the age of the First Darkness, Llovar led the locust swarm of the Uthuk Y’llan into glorious battle, consuming all that lay in their path. Only the combined strength of Humankind, Elves, and Dwarves under the combined leadership of Timmoran and Waiqar prevented the Uthuk victory as the locusts were thrown back and pushed to the edge of extinction. Over the course of centuries, the Uthuk gathered their strength. Timmoran has disappeared and Waiqar has turned against the mortals with his own force of undead warriors. Now is the time to strike. The Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion for Runewars Miniatures Game is on sale now!

Fill Your Ranks

Filling the infantry of the locust horde are the howling tribesmen of the Ru Darklands known as Berserkers. These men, corrupted by the powers of the Ynfernael, announce the coming doom of their enemies as they rush the battlefield with reckless abandon. Berserkers will happily cut down their own ranks to increase their own potency. Their savage melee ability states that the Berserkers may suffer a wound to become more lethal for the duration of the melee. However, the vicious tribesmen cannot permit themselves to become too weakened—therefore they may only use this ability twice per melee.

The cavalry of the Uthuk Y’llan is filled with ruthless and unruly Flesh Rippers. These demonic hellhounds are known for their tendency to shred both their enemies and their handlers to little more than bloody heaps. With a command tool featuring three blue march actions and an impressive march two modifier to match, Flesh Rippers can race across the battlefield with staggering speed and lock their enemies in combat before they have a chance to respond. Once the Flesh Rippers are engaged in a melee, they roll one red die and two surge-heavy blue dice. As a melee ability, the Flesh Rippers may then spend their surges to inflict damage equal to the number of surges spent.

Known as the scuttling horrors, the Spined Threshers are the powerhouses of the Uthuk Y'llan army. These demonic crabs can tear down a fortified keep or wipe out entire battalions in a single strike. Among the most mobile siege units in the battle for Terrinoth, the Spined Threshers’ command tool features a white march one modifier that can be paired with any action. The maddening sight of these creatures on the battlefield terrifies even the bravest mortal warriors. After the Spined Threshers have been activated, each nearby enemy receives a panic token, keeping the enemy off-balance.

But the Spined Threshers are not the only siege unit that appears in the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion. The general of the Uthuk Y’llan, Ravos the Everhungry, commands the locust swarm with unmatched ruthlessness. His command tool features two red melee actions, allowing him to attack early or late in the round, as the needs of the battle demand. Ravos the Everhungry can also be included in another unit with his upgrade card, which can force a unit at range one to suffer one wound at the end of each round. What's more, after setup, each enemy unit receives a single panic token. When fighting alongside the Spined Threshers, Ravos's power can enhance the scuttling horrors’ melee ability, allowing the demon crabs to reroll a die if the defending unit has a panic token.

"The weak have forgotten who we are. We were exiles, yes—but heirs, also. Heirs to Llovar, the greatest of us all. Now the Westmen, the Dhawc, and the Ylairc shall know the bite of Llovar’s locusts once more!"
–Malaana, witch of the Blood Coven

Long ago, the world met darkness. Beneath red banners, horror gripped the land. Wandering, thirsty, and bloodied by rage, they swarmed the land like locust: mindless, hungry, and darkened by magic. They swallowed the land like pigs. Beneath red skies, cursed and terrible, the horrors of unseen, unheard, and undreamt were born. But that evil died out ages ago… didn’t it?

As the battle for Terrinoth continues, a fourth faction joins the fray with the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion! The demons of generations past have returned with this massive expansion that includes twenty-two miniatures for you to build your demonic army. Under the command of Ravos the Everhungry, who we examined in a previous preview, the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion offers sixteen Berserkers, four Flesh Rippers, and one Spined Thresher. Additionally, this expansion includes twelve upgrade cards to strengthen your Ynfernael forces and equip them to spill rivers of blood in your name. Today, Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to offer a closer look at the demons that fill the ranks of the Uthuk Y’llan army in Runewars Miniatures Game!

      });

Berserkers

Surrendering to the darkness of the Ynfernael corrupts everyone, twisting the souls and bodies of those who would use its power. Unnatural growths erupt from beneath the skin and madness burns cruelty and bloodlust into the minds of those touched by its dark power. Thus is the fate of the Uthuk Y’llan. Many of these once-proud people of the steppes have become the shrieking Berserkers of the Uthuk army—howling demons stripped of all humanity as they rush into battle, desperate for the carnage promised by the theater of war.

The Berserkers' erratic speed and violent nature is reflected in their action dial. In addition to three blue march actions falling between initiatives three and six, the Berserkers have a white march one modifier that can be paired with any action, keeping them mobile amidst the chaos of battle.

The tribesmen of the steppes have no loyalty to a realm or to one another. They will readily sacrifice one of their own to increase their frenzy and enact their unit card ability. When participating in a melee, the Berserkers may choose to suffer a wound to gain Lethal 1 for the duration of the melee. However, if the Berserkers' ranks become too decreased, they will be unable to spread choas throughout the realm. Therefore, they may only use this abily twice per melee.

      $(document).ready(function() {
        var opts = {
          iframe: true,

        };
        $('#14D5A').colorbox(opts);
      });

Flesh Rippers

Any who look into the glowing eyes of the Flesh Rippers know that death is soon to follow. Once one of these hell hounds has caught the scent of blood beating in the heart of its target, it will not give up the hunt until it has claimed the life of the damned. They answer only to their summoners, and at times even this is not enough to keep them from ripping their Uthuk handlers to shreds. When participating in a melee, these demonic cavalry units roll one red die and two blue dice—often equipping them with surges to unleash a new level of blood-fueled madness. The Flesh Rippers special ability states that they can spend multiple surges, dealing one damage to an engaged enemy unit for each surge spent. A bloodthirsty commander can even use the red action modifier on the Flesh Ripper’s command tool, which grants both a morale and a surge icon, to guarantee that their dark cavalry will deal at least one damage.

Apart from preparing them for battle, the Flesh Rippers’ command tool emphasizes the demons’ supernatural speed. It is heavy with actions and modifiers focused on marches, shifts, and reforms. At initiative five, the Flesh Rippers may tap into their link to the Ynfernael to perform a march action equal to the number of unstable energy runes in play. If the forces of darkness grant their favor, this may allow your Flesh Rippers to move at a speed of four, the highest in the game. Even if the runes cast on the battlefield fall against the Flesh Rippers, they possess a blue march two modifier that can be paired with any of other march actions. Simply put, for sheer speed the Flesh Rippers are unmatched by any creature found on the mortal plane.

Spined Threshers

The most difficult demons for the Uthuk’s blood witches to control are the fearsome Spined Threshers. These fiendish crabs are known to destroy entire martial units or tear down fortified towers single-handed, acting separately from their Uthuk allies, but still inflicting massive amounts of damage. Similar to the Berserkers, the Spined Threshers feature a white march one modifier, granting them greater mobility than many other siege units in the game. Their demonic presence also strikes fear into the heart of any mortal they face in battle. When participating in a melee, the Spined Threshers may pair their attack with a red modifier that not only provides a bonus hit, but a morale icon as well.

A skilled tactician commanding these scuttling horrors can make even seemingly simple upgrades deadly. The Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion includes the

upgrade, which can be used with any army faction and equips the paired unit with the Impact 1 keyword. When a unit charging under the Bull Pennon collides with an enemy unit, that unit receives one panic token. This is particularly deadly when used alongside the Spined Threshers who feed off the fear of their enemies. During a melee, if the defender has a panic token, the player commanding the Spined Threshers may reroll a die. Considering that these demons roll two heavy hitting red dice when attacking, this bonus roll can practically ensure that the Uthuk’s siege unit will wreak havoc on all who stand against them.

“I, Ravos the Everhungry, took this Ylairc! The spoils come to ME!”

East beyond the careful watch of Hernfar Isle in Terrinoth’s northeast, and as far south as the edge of the Aymhelin, the sun-bleached steppes of the Ru gleam across the wide Lothan River. The inhospitable lands are home to the vicious, demon-worshipping tribes of the Uthuk Y’llan. Once thought dead, the ancient enemy has returned from exile in the distant east to ravage Terrinoth once more. Today, we'll journey to that blighted land for a closer look at Ravos the Everhungry, the dark hero of the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion for Runewars Miniatures Game!

Demonic General

The embodiment of ruthlessness and greed, Ravos the Everhungry manifests every aspect valued by the Uthuk Y’llan. The hulking creature is covered in bulging, sagging tissue and sharpened, bony growths. Open gashes crisscross his enormous belly and thighs and weep a foul substance with every movement. A stranger to both fear and mercy, Ravos is equipped with three keywords: Brutal 1, Precise 1, and Steadfast [Fear 2]. The deadly warrior is armed with a brutal scythe of bone, inscribed with unholy bronzed scrawls. This foul blade means death for any who come too close, regardless of whether they are friend or foe. When participating in a melee, Ravos the Everhungry can spend a surge once to inflict a wound on every enemy at range one… but the demonic general’s thirst for blood is not restricted to his enemies. Before each End Phase, you must choose a unit—friend or foe—at range one of Ravos, and force that unit to suffer one wound!

The very knowledge that Ravos the Everhungry has taken to the battlefield is enough to strike fear into the hearts of men and elves alike. His Ynfernael Presence causes each enemy to receive one panic token after setup. Once the battle begins in earnest, Ravos rolls a red, a blue, and a white die during melees, nearly ensuring that the brutal warrior will find hits to inflict extra damage.

Relentless Assault

Ravos the Everhungry is a one-man war machine. He is the first hero of any army faction to be categorized as a siege unit; large, strong, and singular. But dissimilar to the defensive nature of most other siege units in Runewars Miniatures Game, Ravos has the unstable speed of the Uthuk Y’llan. At initiative four, Ravos the Everhungry can harness the Uthuk Y’llan’s link to the Ynfernael and perform a march action with speed equal to the number of unstable energy runes in play. However, if the evil warrior finds himself on a battlefield where the runes are against him, he may simply bide his time until initiative eight, when he may perform a speed four march, regardless of which runes are present.

Aside from his remarkable speed, Ravos is ravening warlord, instinctively understanding how to strike at the heart of an enemy army to cause maximum bloodshed. The Uthuk’s hero has not one, but two melee actions on his action dial. He may strike early in the round at initiative three, or wait until the Berserkers and Fesh Rippers under his command have had their fill and instead strike at initiative six. When striking at his enemies, Ravos can pair his melee actions to cause bonus hits or inflict significant panic. If the Ynfernael bestows its favor upon Ravos and grants him bonus panic icons in his dice rolls, the results of a morale test can become nothing short of devastating.

Sower of Catastrophe

The raw power of Ravos the Everhungry is compounded by devastating upgrade cards. Like many among the ranks of the Uthuk Y’llan, Ravos the Everhungry’s sole desire is to cause as much pain to his enemies as possible, caring little for who falls from collateral damage.

      Ravos the Everhungry

’s upgrade card states that before each end phase, a player commanding Ravos the Everhungry must choose a unit at range one to suffer one wound. What's more, after setup, each enemy receives one panic token. This powerful upgrade also maintains Ravos's Precise 1 and Steadfast [Fear] keywords.

pushes him to continue pursuing enemies, even after his action for the round is complete. Before each End Phase, this upgrade lets Ravos perform a speed one or two march that he may treat as modified by a turn if he chooses. Ultimately, this allows Ravos to use his dark cunning and maneuver into a position that best exploits his enemies’ vulnerabilities. After all, how can your opponent fight an enemy that he cannot catch?

Ravage, Pillage, Plunder

A new darkness falls over Terrinoth. Add Ravos the Everhungry to your ranks and let him lead your demonic host to victory!

The Locust Swarm emerges from the steppes of the Ru Darklands and calls upon the unholy forces of the Ynfernael to aide in their conquest. The demonic flesh rippers, shrieking berserkers, and monstrous spine threshers take to the battlefields of Terrinoth to unleash their vengeance against the peoples who forced them to the edge of extinction all those ages ago.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce three new unit expansions for the Uthuk Y’llan of Runewars Miniatures Game!

Flesh Rippers

To the armies of the Uthuk, flesh rippers have many purposes. Although unruly, the Uthuk know how to use these creatures as everything from shock troops to hunting hounds, from scouts to saboteurs. Directed by their handlers or by the mind-speech of the blood witches, these ravenous demons can assault enemy lines or harass supply trains, moving swiftly to outflank any attempts at flight, and tearing into those who stand their foolish ground. Further, when sent to hunt or scout, no cunning woodcraft or careful stealth can hide the scent of flesh and blood from the beasts.

The Flesh Rippers Unit Expansion includes four plastic figures and two movement trays to house them, as well as a collection of tokens and five upgrade cards. Of these, one upgrade whips the player’s demons into a

                          class="" style="">Feeding Frenzy.

This states that when an enemy engaged in combat with the flesh rippers loses one tray or more, the player commanding the flesh rippers places a wound token on the upgrade. The flesh rippers subsequently gain Lethal 1 for every three wound tokens on the card. As the taste of blood throws the demons to the edge of madness, they become more erratic and more deadly to both the mortals who face them and the locusts who try to control them.

Berserkers

Tribesmen of the wastes comprise most of the warriors in the hordes of the Uthuk Y’llan. These warriors, called berserkers by those who have encountered them, are no less dangerous
 for their lack of formal training. Simply surviving the Ru Darklands exceeds the rigor of even the most disciplined of Daqan Lord’s marshalling grounds. The only way the berserkers survive in these unforgiving lands is to become fiercer than the perils set against them, and so they learn to hunt, fight, and kill almost as soon as they can walk. Most of the berserkers’ weapons are crafted from the bones and of the beasts they slay and, while Daqan infantry might scoff at the sight of a bone club in the hands of a berserker, the bones of the Ynfernael demons the berserkers had to have bested are sufficient enough to crush helms and pierce mail.

The Berserkers Unit Expansion offers players a full unit of eight berserker miniatures and two movement trays, one unit card and command tool, five upgrade cards, and six tokens. Of these upgrade cards, each increases the lethality of your berserkers.

allows the berserkers to exhaust as many of that card they would like during a melee to gain Lethal 1 for each card spent. Beyond this, the card also allows the user to ready any Bloodrage Conduit in their army before their unit is destroyed, even if the card has been exhausted. A player controlling the mindless killers may choose to stockpile these upgrades to launch an assault upon their unsuspecting enemies. A single berserker may not strike fear into the hearts of the Daqan, but the swarm is unstoppable.

Spined Threshers

A single spined thresher summoned from the Ynfernael is powerful enough to tear apart a barricade, decimate a village, or consume an unlucky patrol. In groups, these demons
can withstand the charges of armored knights and tear down castle walls with ease. Among their only weaknesses are their unruly natures and the great difficulty and cost of the rituals used to summon them. However, as the Uthuk return to the lands of their ancient enemies, the difficulty of acquiring blood for the sacrifices lessens with each town razed or keep sacked, so more threshers are brought into the mortal realm to continue their gruesome harvest.

The Spined Threshers Unit Expansion comes with two unpainted figures, unit cards, movement trays, command tools, twelve tokens, and eight upgrade cards. Among these, hungry Uthuk generals will find the

which feeds on the fear of its enemies in battle. Its upgrade card not only adds a Brutal 1 keyword to the beast, it also allows the spined thresher to reroll one die during a melee if the defender has a panic token. The mortals of Terrinoth may believe themselves to be brave, but a single encounter with a spined thresher will prove how foolish and weak they are.

Call Upon Darkness

As the Uthuk take the battlefield, their forces grow with each drop of blood they shed. Summon the forces of the Ynfernael and conquer Terrinoth with your unparalleled strength!

'Tis a broken land of rock and bone, of poisoned dust and choking smoke. Nothing grows in the Ru Darklands save evil, and nothing dwells there but death.

Long ago, the Uthuk Y’llan ravaged the land like locusts, consuming everything in their path, leaving only destruction in their wake. After the horde’s defeat at the end of the First Darkness, the Uthuk disappeared and their memory faded into legend. But the Ru Darklands begin to stir again as the demonic warbands emerge from the Black Citadel to spread chaos and destruction once more.

Build your swarming ranks with the twisted creatures of the Uthuk Y’llan as you hunger to bring Terrinoth to its knees.

Uthuk Berserkers

No tribesman of the Uthuk Y’llan is weak after surviving the crucible of life in the Darklands, but only the truly mighty can survive long in the front ranks of a Berserker warband. These fearless assailants make up the infantry of the Locust hordes. Infamous for the unearthly scream they unleash as they run frenzied into battle strikes panic into the hearts of their enemies. Any soldier who hears their cry knows that their opponent is the embodiment of evil and, while they appear close to human, they have no sense of compassion and offer no mercy.

In battle, the Berserkers are whipped into a frenzy by witches of the Blood Coven. This powerful and encompassing insanity ensures a Steadfast nature, making them very resistant to any fear effects. The Blood Coven’s mind control also causes the Berserkers to lose all regard for their own lives, as their only cause becomes to destroy their enemies. As such, when the Berserkers engage in combat, they may choose to suffer one wound to gain Lethal 1 for the duration of the attack. But this frenzy cannot last forever; Berserkers can only use this ability twice during a combat.

Flesh Rippers

The Uthuk Y'llan’s cavalry is filled with fearsome Flesh Rippers. These demons, summoned from the depths of the Ynfernael itself, hunt the enemies of the Locust horde whether they be hounds, scouts, or saboteurs. Powerful Uthuk chieftans and sorcerers choose these steeds as their battle mounts for their swift movement and unholy ability to smell the blood beating in the hearts of their foes. However, the demons are nearly impossible for even their Uthuk handlers to restrain. Before the player who controls the Flesh Rippers reveals their command tool, they must perform a speed-1 maneuver.

This relentless, erratic speed is what lends the demons power while engaging foes. When the Flesh Rippers are locked in combat, surges are the creature’s greatest asset. After rolling one red die and two blue dice, they have the ability to inflict damage on their enemy equal to each surge icon revealed. The demons tear flesh from bone before defenders can counter or even attempt to protect themselves.

Even the Uthuk Y’llan fear these creatures and keep them constantly caged and guarded when they are not used in battle. Flesh Rippers spawn quickly from the Ynfernael and a player may have up to nine trays of these fell beasts on the battlefield at a given time.

Ravos the Everhungry

One of the most revered of the Uthuk Y’llan’s ranks is their mighty and imposing hero, Ravos the Everhungry. The brutal Ravos embodies the ideal of the Locust Horde with his undying bloodlust as he consumes everything in his path. The perfect soldier, Ravos the Everhungry has three keywords: Brutal 1, Precise 1, and Steadfast [Fear 2].

That's hardly the end of his savagery though. There is no escape from the dread commander’s wicked curved blade that extends his attack range. During a combat, Ravos the Everhungry can spend a surge icon to inflict a wound on every enemy within range of one. What's more, despite his elevated rank, Ravos the Everhungry is as reckless as any Berserker. Before the End Phase, the player who controls Ravos must choose a unit at range one to suffer one wound. This attack does not discriminate between sides, and can affect enemy units or another member of the Uthuk Y’llan army.

Ravos the Everhungry is one of the most terrifying beings that has ever engaged in battle upon the fields of Terrinoth. Merely being in the presence of the demonic Locust Horde commander is enough to shake the bravery of even the bravest soldier. To represent this, Ravos the Everhungry’s Ynfernael Presence ability inflicts one panic token on every single enemy after setup. A player commanding the Uthuk Y’llan can harm his enemy even before the battle begins!

The bloodthirsty Ravos the Everhungry’s command dial bears two melee icons that allow him to attack either early or late within the round. A player can use him to front an attack and weaken their enemy, or wait until the demonic swarm has tired the Realm’s defenders and bring in Ravos for a final devastating blow. Ravos can either engage in direct combat or also use fear as his weapon of choice to inflict not one, but two panic icons on an enemy. Then, the commander may choose to leave his enemies to the Spined Threshers who thrive on the fear of their enemies.

Spined Threshers

The Uthuk’s demonic army would not be complete without the monstrous beasts known as the Spined Threshers. In ancient legends, these creatures were summoned to the mortal realm by the river of blood left in the Locust Horde’s wake. The twisted crab-like demons rend flesh, armor, and even fortified stone with their monstrous claws, and strike fear into all who behold their twisted shape. Once a Spine Thresher has been activated, each enemy who does not bear a panic token within Range 1 to the number of unstable runes on the battlefield receives a panic token.

In battle, a Spined Thresher is fear and chaos incarnate. Their enemies’ panic enhances their combat ability which states that if the defender has a panic token, the player controlling the Threshers may reroll one die. This increases the odds of a Spined Thresher tearing down bulwarks set against it and making meals of all too brave or too stubborn to flee. With five wounds and two stolid defense, the Spine Threshers are too resilient for anything less than a full military deployment to have a hope of stopping its rampage.

Of course, Spined Threshers are difficult for the witches of the Blood Coven to summon. Each beast has a cost of eighteen, making it among the highest cost units in the game. Yet savvy commanders will quickly find that these monsters are well worth their cost for how much chaos they can sow on the field of battle. With even one Spined Thresher and an army of well-composed chaos, the Locust Horde can become unstoppable.

Overrun the Realm

Offer yourself to darkness and unleash the chaos of the Ynfernael upon Terrinoth with the mighty Uthuk Y’llan!

Look for the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion (RWM22) in Q4 of 2017!
