My Diary. My Unexpected Journey. There and Back Again. And What Happened After.
    –Bilbo Baggins

In a big, red leather book with plain covers, Bilbo Baggins kept meticulous records of all his journeys and adventures. There, too, Frodo Baggins recorded the events that were later retold in The Lord of the Rings . From these records, the great historian and linguist J.R.R. Tolkien was able to reconstruct the Hobbits’ adventures and retell them in English. Since that time, the tales of these brave Hobbits and their companions have become legendary, inspiring millions of people and zealous communities of fans from around the globe.

Imagine, then, what would have been lost had these brave Hobbits not set their adventures down to parchment and shared them with the world…
