“Do you know, son, where she has gone? Do we need to kill someone?”
- The Lost Dreamers by Nate French
The next Asylum Pack of the
Dreamlands
expansion
for
Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game
is almost upon us and in honor of this event we present a few card spoilers from this upcoming pack to give you a taste of what is in store for the
Call of Cthulhu
metagame.
Dark deeds are afoot as the trail of our serial tale, The Lost Dreamers, winds deeper into the terminal sleep of the dreamlands. Our hero, Gregory Gry, card shark extraordinaire, must enlist some help from his paramour's father, John Henry Price, to pull dreamer Twila-Katherine Price back from the brink.
This Asylum Pack will pack some punch, wrapped in some subtle twists. Below you will find three examples of what you can expect from the latest expansion for the Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game .
John Henry Price
The mysterious Twila-Katherine Price's father, John Henry Price is introduced in this pack. An Agency man to the bone, John Henry Price exemplifies Agency's strong suits, Combat and Investigation struggles, as well as an affinity with Attachment support cards. John Henry Price essentially lets you play a free Shotgun (Core F14) or Patrol Wagon (Core F15) on him, freeing up crucial domains, while also giving you a nice card draw as well. Mr. Price is sure to find a home in the Run 'n' Gun (Miskatonic/Agency) deck.
The Silver Key
Yog-Sothoth introduces this tricky artifact, The Silver Key. It's a strange little Attachment that essentially gives your exhausted characters a nice "wake up call" when you commit them to the attached story. This gives you a sweet opportunity to make use of character abilities or commit them to another story before committing to the attached story. It also makes an interesting defense against those characters that do not exhaust to commit to stories, such as through the effects of Dream Diary (Dreamlands F4) and The Barque Miskatonic (Mountains of Madness F2).
The Book of Black Stones
Finally, The Book of Black Stones is presented as an example of the Tome subtype that is seeing a lot of play in this expansion. This card has an offensive use and a defensive use. On offense, this Attachment throws cards into your opponent's discard pile. While "milling" is not a super-strong strategy, it can become quite frustrating when the card your opponent needs is thrown out, especially when, as per cards like Clover Club Regular (Dreamlands F26) let you know exactly what that card is. On defense, this card can find quite a bit of use in a Yog-Sothoth or Shub Niggurath recursion deck, essentially putting the cards you want easily within reach of the effects of Gathering at the Stone (Core F118) and Shadowed Woods (Core F133). Be careful, though: use this card too many times and you may find yourself decked out!
These are just three of the twenty new cards that will be revealed in the Search for the Silver Key Asylum Pack, coming soon. There is a little something for all factions, including more cards triggering off of Day and Night , as well as Dreamer and Location . Be sure to check it out when Search for the Silver Key arrives at your local game store!
