Announcing The Two Towers Saga Expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

The Fellowship has broken. During a fateful confrontation at Amon Hen, large Orcs bearing the White Hand of Saruman attacked the company, and in the chaos some members were captured, others killed. Now, Aragorn and the remainder of the Fellowship must let Frodo travel to Mordor while they pursue the Orcs that captured their friends.

Experience the next chapter of the journey to destroy the One Ring in this epic expansion. This expansion contains six scenarios that recreate the adventures featured in the second part of the legendary The Lord of the Rings saga. In this box, you’ll also find over 60 hero and player cards, which can be used to build or enhance your decks for any The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game scenario or campaign.

Note: For longtime fans of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, this expansion combines all of the contents from The Treason of Saruman and The Land of Shadow. If you already own those two expansions, you will not find any new cards or content in this product.

The Adventure Continues

Just as with The Fellowship of the Ring Saga Expansion before it, this expansion comes with a plethora of new player cards to expand your deckbuilding options. Among those player cards are a handful of Fellowship sphere cards to enhance your Saga Expansion adventures.

Among these Fellowship cards is a new version of Aragorn (The Two Towers Saga Expansion, 1), a strong and versatile hero who can fight, defend, and support his allies in equal measure. This version of Aragorn doesn’t count toward your hero limit, can spend his resources to ready heroes, and can make use of the special Fellowship event The Three Hunters (The Two Towers SE, 27). Just take care to keep him healthy; as with other Fellowship heroes, if Aragorn is ever defeated, it’s game over!

This expansion also adds another version of Frodo Baggins (The Two Towers SE, 2) to serve as your Ring-bearer. This version of Frodo has grown a little more confident and capable since beginning his journey, allowing him to exhaust The One Ring (The Two Towers SE, 139) to boost his willpower and attack stats for the round. Frodo can then use this boost to lower an enemy’s attack and defense with Speak Your Promise! (The Two Towers SE, 26), providing assistance to his allies on both the offensive and defensive fronts.

As a reminder, the Fellowship sphere can only be used when playing scenarios from Saga Expansions. Thankfully, this expansion comes with plenty of player cards that can be used for any scenario, including a healthy spread of Gondor, Rohan, and Ent heroes and allies! Take Faramir (The Two Towers SE, 3), for example, who enters the fray as a Leadership hero that can snipe enemies from afar and ready his allies once he engages those enemies. The King of Rohan himself, Théoden (The Two Towers SE, 4), grants you a discount on Rohan allies like Gamling (The Two Towers SE, 14) and Hama (The Two Towers SE, 15), while the Gondorian Ranger  Damrod (The Two Towers SE, 5) grants you that same discount on Trap cards like Ambush (The Two Towers SE, 21). Of course, the story of The Two Towers would not be complete without the Ents, and the hero Treebeard (The Two Towers SE, 6) can lead allies like Skinbark (The Two Towers SE, 12) and Quickbeam (The Two Towers SE, 20) into battle with an Entmoot (The Two Towers SE, 23)!

The Treason of Saruman

As mentioned earlier, the campaign of this expansion recreates the events and encounters of The Two Towers. The first scenario has you chasing after the Uruk-hai (The Two Towers SE, 34) that captured your friends. Throughout this scenario, you’ll have to contend with a “pursuit value” that makes things harder for you the more it grows, and if it ever reaches 30, the Uruk-hai have reached Isengard and delivered their prisoners to Saruman. You can’t let that happen, so chase them down, confront Uglúk (The Two Towers SE, 32), and rescue your friends!

Each subsequent scenario continues the tale of The Two Towers. From defending the people of Rohan at Helm’s Deep (The Two Towers SE, 53) to confronting Saruman (The Two Towers SE, 72) alongside the Ents, Aragorn and his companions have an uphill battle from the moment they set out in their quest. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam continue on their quest with the One Ring, passing through the Evil-smelling Fens (The Two Towers SE, 97) and Shifting Quagmires (The Two Towers SE, 98) of the Dead Marshes and confronting the monstrous spider Shelob (The Two Towers SE, 126). Their journey is already fraught with peril, and if that wasn’t enough, their companion and guide, Sméagol (The Two Towers SE, 147b), can turn on them at any time by flipping and becoming Gollum (The Two Towers SE, 147a)!

The Road to Isengard

As Saruman’s armies tear across the land and the Ring-bearer’s safety hangs by a thread, you and your fellow heroes will have to fight your hardest in order to keep Middle-earth from descending into darkness. Whether you missed the original release of The Treason of Saruman and/or The Land of Shadow or are just now getting into The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, you can look forward to continuing your journey through this epic saga when The Two Towers Saga Expansion arrives in October.
