“There is the land where our fathers worked of old, and we have wrought the image of those mountains into many works of metal and of stone, and into many songs and tales… Only once before have I seen them from afar in waking life, but I know them and their names, for under them lies Khazad-dûm, the Dwarrowdelf, that is now called the Black Pit, Moria in the Elvish tongue.”

Designer Lukas Litzsinger shared his thoughts on how the Dwarrowdelf Adventure Packs open up new avenues of exploration within Middle-earth.
A word from the designer
The Dwarrowdelf cycle allows players to travel along the Misty Mountains as well as delve deep into Moria. While the cycle’s narrative arc stands apart from the one in the Khazad-dûm box, the two are closely knit thematically. Players want new scenarios to feel as fresh as possible, which is why Khazad-dûm has six different encounter sets for use in the Dwarrowdelf cycle (whereas the Core Set has four). This allows us to better differentiate the areas players will be exploring and is why Khazad-dûm is a required purchase for anyone who wants to play the Dwarrowdelf scenarios.
The quests in the cycle are each meant to challenge players in new ways. Your heroes must survive raging snowstorms that lower their willpower, fight a watchful and crafty creature before the Doors of Durin, and find their way among a maze of labyrinthine passages within the depths of Moria. Dwarrowdelf scenarios force players to re-evaluate the flexibility a deck must have to handle all of the various challenges that Middle-earth has to offer. Some of the nastiest encounter cards to date appear in this cycle.
However, players will have powerful new cards at their disposal as well. With six new hero cards, more strategies and deck combinations open up. The beginning of the cycle’s arc sets players on the path to Rivendell, and so it seemed fitting to provide players with cards that reflect this important Elf haven, guarded under the wise and watchful rule of Elrond. Of course, with a name like Dwarrowdelf, there are also some incredibly potent Dwarf cards picking up where Khazad-dûm left off.
I’ve just scratched the surface of what Dwarrowdelf has to offer and what you’ll find in its packs. There are new keywords, new (familiar) faces, new enemies, and six new scenarios that should please players in the mold of Boromir, Pippin, and Bilbo alike. We can’t wait until you all are able to adventure in this region of Middle-earth, for the road goes ever on…
