The cosmic wheel dances and spins, with orbits great and small being traced by planets across the sky. From where I sit on some nights, the stars almost appear close enough to touch. As if I could simply reach out my hand, stretch my fingertips just a bit further, to finally make contact with those wondrously bright celestial orbs. So that's exactly what I do.

When suddenly, I realize that I can no longer let go!

Welcome interplanetary travelers to our fourth preview of Cosmic Incursion – the upcoming boxed expansion set for Cosmic Encounter which adds a sixth player, a brilliant new rewards deck for your defensive allies, and twenty more alien powers to vex and confound even the most enthusiastic xenophiles among you. In case you've missed any of our recent Cosmic Incursion previews, feel free to wander through the Cosmic Encounter news page for all the latest articles.

Today brings the long awaited return of an alien power that made first contact way back in 1981 – the Fungus.

These terribly tenacious beings come across innocently enough, but all it takes is one wrong move and you'll find yourself traveling a long way from home.

Fungus has the power to Adhere. Once you've found yourself on the losing end of an encounter with the Fungus, your ships will not end up in the Warp as you'd normally expect.

Instead, Fungus' power to Adhere grants them the ability to take all the losing ships from an encounter as captives, placing them beneath one or more of Fungus' own. These imprisoned foreign ships will only be freed after the captor itself is lost to the Warp. Until then, Fungus may add the number of foreign ships in a stack to their side's total in an encounter.

As always, the alien sheet reveals the whole story. Until we return for our next preview, here's the Fungus in all its smothering glory. Enjoy!
